GENETICS, BREEDING, STUDY OF VARIETIES
Abstract
Priokskoye, Poezia and Vostorg, columnar apple varieties of the VNIISPK breeding, have shown high efficiency of cultivation. When cultivating a columnar orchard with
1,0 × 0,5 m spacing of trees on dwarf rootstocks it is advisable to use such varieties as Sozvezdie and Pamiaty Blynskogo, which have low ability for shoot formation. 3,0 × 1,0 m planting design (3333 trees per hectare) is recommended when using semi-dwarf 3-4-98. The development of triploid scab immune columnar apple varieties as well as the development of a planting design for non-supporting columnar orchards is of great interest.
We also present the variants of columnar apple planting designs which need to be estimated in the nearest future.

Abstract
The article presents results of a study of the gusset slaboroslyh rootstocks of apple breeding VNIIS them. I. V. Michurin (S.N. Stepanov). On the example of apple varieties Spartacus selection GBU CO SRI "Zhigulevskie gardens", the results of observations of clonal rootstocks intercalary in the mother, in the nursery and garden. According to the research highlighted gusset rootstocks, which are characterized by high winter hardiness, productivity, and can be recommended for the creation of industrial apple orchards in the area of the Middle Volga. Basic results of the comparative estimation of winter hardiness for the period of 2012…2014 are shown according to the data of the field records of a number of ornamental apple and pear selections of the VNIISPK gene pool, which demonstrated distinctions in that important parameter of adaptivity. As a result 12 ornamental apple selections have been singled out as the most winter hardy ones in conditions of Orel district.

Abstract
Columnar apple variety «Priokskoye» is characterized by a correct microsporogenesis course. A disorder percentage is low in all stages of division and it varies from 0,7% (telophase-II) to 6,2% metaphase-II). In the final stage of division correct tetrads make up a bulk of microsporocytes. In the stage of one-nucleus pollen uniform pollen of a middle size makes up 98%. Consequently, «Priokskoye» produces valuable pollen and is recommended for use in breeding as a pollinator.

Abstract
The technological estimation of the new immune to scab triploid apple varieties for juice processing suitability has shown that all of them allow producing the processing products of top-quality taste. An average taste mark of juice – 4,4. Apple varieties Turgenevskoye and Spasskoye have stood out for high juice output, Alexandr Boyko and Turgenevskoye – for P-active substances content. All studied juices meet the requirements of the Technical Regulations. Apple varieties Turgenevskoye, Spasskoye, Ubilyar, Rozhdestvenskoye are most suitable for juice production.

Abstract
10 triploid scab immune apple cultivars developed at the All Russia Research Institute of Fruit Crop Breeding (VNIISPK) were studied for a chemical composition of fruit – soluble dry substances, sum of sugars, organic (titrate) acids, ascorbic acid and sum of phenolics. The material obtained in 2014 and earlier was generalized and compared with wide-spread diploid cultivars (Antonovka Obyknovennaya, Melba, Osenneye Polosatoye, Papirovka and Severny Sinap). It was determined that triploid cultivars had fruit of higher quality. Practically all cultivars (with the exception of Yubilar) had heightened content of a sum of sugars (range of variations: 9,51…14,27%). A number of cultivars (Prazdnichnoye, Blagodat, Vavilovskoye, Spasskoye, Zhilinskoye and Yablochny Spas) excelled in that index – 11,17…14,27%. In connection with this a sugar-acid index of triploid apple fruit was higher than 15. The triploid cultivars accumulated more than 300 mg/100 g of phenolics (catechins, leukoanthocyans in sum) – Blagodat (386,6), Yablochny Spas (362,8), Yubilar (362,1), Aleksandr Boiko (350,5), Rozhdestvenskoye (332,4). Zhilinskoye (324,4) and Spasskoye (321,5). Unfortunately only three cultivars accumulated ascorbic acid in fruit more than 10 mg/100 g – Maslovskoye
(14,6 mg/100 g), Spasskoye (11,9 mg/100 g) and Yubilar (11,3 mg/100 g).

Abstract
A success of breeding tasks is mainly determined by a selection of the initial material. In black currant studies carried out at the VNIISPK one of the main tasks is a creation of donors resistant to diseases, powdery mildew first of all, and pests – bud mite. For all this, many of our selected donors of resistance are not characterized by high productivity. For this reason the donors have been estimated according to the components of productivity. The use of resistant and highly productive donors will facilitate the intensification and acceleration of the breeding process.
This paper gives records characterizing productivity of promising black currant selections according to the basic components and data on berry yield. As a result of the estimation of potential donors of resistance to powdery mildew according to the components of productivity we have singled out selections with maximum display of the components as well as with their combination on an optimal level.

Abstract
The technological assessment of new black currant varieties and selections seedlings for processing suitability has shown that all of them allow producing the processing products of top-quality taste. An average taste mark of stewed fruit and jam – 4.4. Black currant stewed fruit is notable for high contents of ascorbic acid (AA) – 79.7 mg/100g, on average, and is a source of P-active substances – 190.9 mg/100g, on average. An average AA content in jam – 23.7 mg/100g; P-active substances – 81.3 mg/100g. “Desertnaya Ogoltsovoy”, “Orlovskaya serenade” and 2746-7-40 seedling combine top-quality taste with high AA and P-active substances contents.

Abstract
The paper presents the results of a four-year evaluation of 13 strawberry on the basis of productivity and yield. Along with the introduced cultivars three domestic varieties have been studied, of which Nelly and Taira are the varieties of NCRRIHV (the North-Caucasus Regional Research Institute of Horticulture and Viniculture) breeding. To identify highly productive and large-fruited varieties we have performed grouping of varieties by number of berries, average berry weight and yield per a plant. Bogota, Honey, Elsanta, Marmolada, Molling Pandora and Nelly have been identified as varieties with the highest number of berries per a plant. High values of the average berry weight have been observed in Florence, Marmolada, Roxana, Nelly and Taira. Bogota, Marmolada, Nelly, Molling Pandora, Roxana, Florence and Taira have shown high yield (g/plant). To assess the variation contingency of recorded variety traits we carried out the cluster analysis by Ward’s Method that allowed revealing the similarity of the reaction norm of strawberry genotypes on many-year growing conditions according to a complex of traits.

Abstract
Five sea buckthorn varieties – Bayan-Gol, Zarya Dabat, Pamyati Zaharovoy, Sokratovskaya and Taskhanovskaya are described.
The advantage of Buryat sea buckthorn varieties is their high winter hardiness, sea buckthorn fruit are an excellent raw material for the production of natural juice of homogeneous consistencies, not stratifying, giving dense jelly without adding gelling substances and suitable for natural concentrates.
The sea buckthorn gene pool collected at the Buryat Research Institute of Agriculture allows to carry out the analytical and synthetic breeding in accordance with many directions.
For the years of the investigation 17 sea buckthorn varieties have been developed, 12 inventor’s certificates and 3 patents have been issued and 5 varieties are under state variety testing.
